JUST WHO IS

KIM?

This information is here for those of you who are wondering who I am.  I did not create my site as a tribute to myself.  However, I have had several inquiries into my credentials, so here they are.

This page was last updated 28 July 2006.

bulletMy name is Kim Steele, and I am originally from Oklahoma. I now live in southwest Kansas, where I have been teaching in the same school district since 1988. I taught 7th grade language arts for six years, 8th grade language arts for 10 years, and I am now in my third year of teaching language arts to high school English as a Second Language students.  This year marks my 19th year as an educator.

bulletI earned my B.A. degree in English and Secondary Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. I am currently working on obtaining my ESL endorsement, even though I have been teaching ESL students for the past 10 years..

bulletI was trained in the Six Trait Writing Model in 1991 before being trained as a facilitator to train teachers in 1993. I have been facilitating training sessions for new and veteran teachers for my school district since then.

bulletIn 1994, I scored Six Trait Writing Assessments for the state of Kansas.  I have not scored since because I now have three children, and they are my number one priority.  I do plan to attend a scoring session in the near future.

bulletIn February 1995, I gave a presentation on Six Trait Writing at the Kansas Association of Middle Level Educators Symposium.

bulletI served on the committee to rewrite and update the middle school language arts curriculum and district assessments from 1997 to 2004.

bulletBefore moving to the high school, I served as my building's Language Arts Curriculum Leader from 1997 to 2004.

bulletIn 2006, I served on a committee for the Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation at the University of Kansas to help set cut scores for the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessment, which is a state assessment for ESL students.

bulletI have presented inservices to teachers in my district and other districts in southwest Kansas for Six Trait Writing, the writing process, writing across the curriculum, and graphic organizers.
