DESCRIPTORS FOR ORGANIZATION

The following list of descriptors is adapted from the Six Trait Analytic Writing Model rubric for organization. I developed the list for my students so that they would have an easy reference for how writers develop organization.

A writer should do the following:

	Use an inviting lead that "hooks" the reader
	Place supporting details so that they fit
	Use logical and effective structure, order, and sequence
	Give information at just the right moment
	Use smooth transitions to help the ideas flow together
	Use a conclusion that ties everything together
	Use a conclusion that gives the reader a sense of resolution
	Use organization that enhances the central idea
	Use organization that is graceful
