DESCRIPTORS FOR WRITING CONVENTIONS

The following list of descriptors is adapted from the Six Trait Analytic Writing Model rubric for writing conventions. I developed this list for my students so that they would have a reference for how writers enhance their writing with correct conventions.

A writer should do the following:

bulletReinforce the organization with good paragraphing
bulletUse grammar that contributes to clarity and style
bulletGuide the reader through the paper with correct punctuation
bulletUse correct spelling, even on difficult words
bulletUse capitalization correctly
bulletEnhance the readability of the paper with conventions
bulletProvide a long enough piece of writing to show a wide range of skills
bulletProofread and edit the paper
bulletMake sure any errors are intentional for stylistic effect
