WHAT'S THAT SMELL?

Present the students with something that has a distinctive odor. Keep it hidden from view and don't tell the students what it is; let them figure it out.

After a few minutes, have the students write down their thoughts about what the odor reminds them of and why. Students are not to just write down their guess of what the source of the odor is.

Then have the students write a story or essay based on their thoughts.
