SAMPLE PAPERS TO SHOW STRENGTHS
AND WEAKNESSES FOR EACH TRAIT

Scoring 6+1 TraitTM Writing is a the page with sample papers found at the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. Besides the paper, you will find the score the paper received for each trait as well as comments from the raters. These papers can be useful to three different groups:

bulletTrainers of Six Trait looking for more examples to teach other teachers about scoring papers based on the rubrics
bulletTeachers new to the Six Trait Model who are looking for example papers to familiarize themselves with the rubrics and how papers are scored
bulletStudents who need to see strong and weak examples of each trait

From this page, you can choose papers according to trait, score, and/or grade level.  Some of the papers can be used for more than one trait.  Also, you have a choice of looking at the scores or hiding them.  There are also printer friendly versions available.

If you need more sample papers, try trading actual student papers with another teacher close to your grade level. Make sure you have the students' permission first and block out the names. You can use your own students' papers, but they may be discouraged by this, even if you block out the names.
