DESCRIPTORS FOR VOICE

The following list of descriptors is adapted from the Six Trait Analytic Writing Model rubric for voice. I developed the list for my students so that they would have a reference for how writers develop voice.

A writer should do the following:

bulletWrite honestly and from the heart
bulletShare his/her feelings about the topic
bulletSpeak directly to the reader (without using YOU)
bulletUse language that brings the topic to life for the reader
bulletCare about what he/she has written
bulletWrite to be read
bulletUse more expression than what is in an encyclopedia article
bulletGive the reader a sense of the person behind the words
bulletConnect with the reader
