PEER RESPONSE SHEET FOR
WORD CHOICE

Below is a version of the peer response sheet I have my students use when reading another student's paper for word choice. I have changed the format to fit the confines of this web page. I usually have a line in front of each statement and one in the middle so that students can mark a particular item as being a strength, in the middle, or a weakness.

DIRECTIONS: Circle what you believe to be the correct response to the paper.

Precise words (words seem to fit) OR Some words are precise, others are not OR Words don't fit

Strong action verbs OR Some action verbs OR Mostly linking verbs (is, are)

Specific nouns OR Some nouns are specific OR Hard for reader to picture anything

Words sound natural OR Some words sound natural OR Words used to impress the reader

Words used in a new way OR Some words used in a new way, but writer relies on common language OR Too many clichés

Words used correctly OR Some words used incorrectly OR Many words used incorrectly

Variety of words OR Some variety of words OR Several words repeated
